An international opera singer is making an injury claim over an incident which he says has ruined his career.

According to a report in the Bournemouth Echo, David Montague-Rendall was performing at the newly built Copenhagen Opera House when part of the two-tier set collapsed on him.

The venue, which opened in 2005 and is the national opera house of Denmark, is one of the most modern buildings of its kind and is located on the island of Holmen.

Mr Montague-Rendall tumbled around 15 feet and sustained serious injuries as a result. His left hip was shattered and both his shoulders were damaged.

Consequently, he is seeking accident compensation for his suffering and loss of earnings.

According to the performer, he is owed around 250,000 for his lack of income since the incident occurred.

The 61-year-old said bookings have dried up because opera companies doubt his ability to achieve the same high standards and his last performance was two years ago.

He is making his injury claim against the Danish Ministry of Culture.

Mr Montague-Rendall remarked: “During the performance two stage levels were raised to give the impression that I was underground in a tomb. “On the night in question, the stage above went sideways instead of up, resulting in the destruction of the set. “I was knocked down at least 15 feet and tried to crawl to safety to avoid being crushed.”

The legal experts seeking accident compensation on his behalf pointed out he has had to sell his house since he stopped performing.

They added that, while the Danish Ministry of Culture has admitted liability for the suffering caused by the collapse, it has not accepted the extent of the damage.

His case continues against the organisation and his lawyers noted they will carry on with their fight for justice.
